My Past is Today's News

In the late '70s and early '80s I was really into the NYC Punk scene. I was not in a band or anything but I really enjoyed going to shows. I spent many early mornings at the Mudd Club, CBGBs, the Peppermint Lounge and other places I can not remember. I saw Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers dozens of times, I "danced" with Jello Biafra and would of quit a job if I could not leave early to see the Ramones. I still listen to these bands. I recommended Pandora if you want to hear some good punk.

The Bowery Boys is a great blog . They cover NYC history and culture in a witty and interesting way. They do not need me to sell them. Today their blog was about the Ritz / Webster Hall. Specifically the night Johny Rotten and his band Public Image Limited caused a riot. They also provide a link the the Rolling Stone article about the show.

The most amazing thing is the picture in Rolling Stone. That is me, I am the person furthest left in the photo. Behind me is my friend Phil.

I always saved my ticket stubs. I even put little notes on the stub. I gave shows a ratting from 1 to 10. Often there was no ticket. I used little scraps of paper. Below is my psudo-stub from The Heartbreakers show at Zappas in Brooklyn on May 1, 1981. Two weeks later I saw PiL at the Ritz.

It look like I had a hard time writing. I guess I was a little excited ;0)
