Fleet Week

This morning my run took me up the West Side of Manhattan.  Some where in Chelsea I thought I heard a motorcycle in the sky.  A rumbling, sucking sound over my head.  I garbed my camera and got this shot. Holy shit, I never thought I would see a Star Wars, The Clone Wars LEGO Republic Gunship, over the Hudson River.

Then I rememberd the Low Flying Plane alert I got from Notify NYC
Notification issued 05/24/2010 at 5:49 P.M. During Fleet Week 5/25 to 5/31 low flying military aircraft, 21-gun salutes, a parade of ships and other events are scheduled for the Hudson River, NY Harbor, Lower Manhattan and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport areas.
So it was not a rebel attack, it was Fleet Week.  I ran home and took my son to the USS Iwo Jima.

It was really REALLY crowded, but everyone was nice.  Especially the sailors that live and work on that ship. They were all very proud of their ship and the jobs they did on her.  It was really my pleasure to welcome them to NYC.  I told many to come visit Brooklyn.

My son had more fun that he did on the Intrepid.  The Intrepid is a museum.  The Iwo Jima is an operational  aircraft carries.  It was not so fragile  He was allowed to climb on everything and touch every button..
He got to climb into real helicopters.

and he took this picture of a real Naval Aviator.

And this is the real helicopter that I saw that morning.

  1. My boys would have loved that!! I was walking with a friend lastnight and her hubbie is Canadian Military. They were at our local base town this weekend, and all our "gear" is out too for display this weekend. I was impressed!!

You do not have to be nice!
