The MTA Can Do Better, Much Better. (UPDATE)

Update: As of 4-11-11,  the door at Smith and 9th has been removed (not propped shut) and the bird, it's nest and all the other mess has been cleaned from the 4th Ave Station.  I would like to think I had something to do with it. But I doubt it.

Update:  I found another nest that you can reach out and touch on the stairs to the 1 Train at 125th St.

Update, As of 5-4-11, 5-20 There is still no door at Smith/9th.  They put a door at Smith/9th Street by 5-26

Update September 2011:  There has been no service at all at Smith & 9th and the entire station building including its foundation has been removed. That might explain why they were in no hurry to fix the door.

The MTA is doing some major rehab on the Culver Ave Viaduct.  But that is OK.  That section of elevated subway track is like 275 years old.  I understand that I might have to go up and down an extra staircase, or go and extra stop and come back to get to where I want to go.  It's OK, things gotta get fixed.

But this is fucking ridiculous. Things have to be maintained!.  When you climb the stairs to go either way on the F & G at 4th Ave.

You pass this

This bird and its nest

 These hypodermic needle

These bones

From the outside

The nest stop is Smith & 9th.   Nice poster, "Improving, non stop..."

How about fixing the fucking door.  It has been broken for 2 weeks.

Held shut with a god dame broom stick..

Someone with an orange vest gets to park on the sidewalk

and this....

Back in hoity toity Park Slope the 7th / 8th  Ave station has looked like this since way before I took this photo in 2008. IT STILL DOES.

But I still like this window to the Police Station in the Hoyt / Schermerhorn stop on the A and G

  1. I hate that campaign... for all the budget overages the MTA runs, do they really need to hire a marketing firm to convince people who are ALREADY RIDING THE TRAIN to ride the train? It's so backwards.

  2. All that's missing is some good subway car graffitti and we could be taken back to the 70's/80's.

  3. i feel like i need a tetanus shot every time i use one of those stops. the 21st/van alst (the street has not been called van alst for like 100 years, btw) on the G looks like a set from 'escape from new york'. the neglect in massive parts of the system is appalling.
