DDC Day III, Yes this is Brooklyn

From the window of il Fornetto on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay. The MIL took us out to lunch.

It was not always a fancy restaurant, back in the late 1970s is was an Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. I worked there for a summer. It was a great learning experience. I fine tuned my sarcasm and learned how stupid people were.

On weekends tourists would stand on line because they thought we had fresh fish. They assumed we served fresh fish because the back of the store was on the water, the exact same water that is photographed above.

In fact we served misery fish. Arthur Treacher's marketing campaign was based on a "secret recipe". Therefore the crates of frozen fish patties were labeled cod and/or mackerel from Atlantic and/or Pacific waters. Not fresh, maybe not fish.

We also served "chips". Hence the name Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. I remember reading all the fast food magazines the manager left in the office. The chips we served were always rated as the worst fried potato product in any fast food restaurant. (Nathan's was always the best.)

I remember that the manager would often give me an empty Arthur Treacher's bag and ask me to get is lunch across the street at Roll N Roster. It is still there.
