I order to pacify those who think bike are more dangerous than cars the DOT puts some thick paint on the Prospect Park West Bike Lane in the areas where cyclists will approach a crosswalk. I think it is meant to reminded riders to yield to pedestrians. I yield anyway.
They also repainted some of the yellow lines in the middle of the bike lane. I think some of the dashes became lines.
If there was actually any concern with the safety of people walking across the bike lane, something would be done about the cars that PARK in the crosswalk. Like this and this
We spent several days in Amsterdam in March, where cyclists do NOT yield to pedestrians. Bicycles have the right-of-way over cars and people, sometimes RIGHT OVER people.

it's a great idea to make the bicyclist aware, and get them to slow down. We all know that bikes can reach 25 or even 35 mph, especially on down hills, and that can and does kill. I'd say ask Stuart Gruskin but he's dead, killed by a delivery person who was probably riding slower than 20 mph. Check out his wife's and two children's foundation: http://gruskinfoundation.org/
