Adding Insult to Injury on Earth Day

I live a few blocks from a Super Fund Site.  Click here  for a link to the whole map that shows the boundaries of   the 178 acre Potential Contamination Area.  On a bad day Tiger Woods could hit a ball from my roof to the contaminated area.  That is the injury.  I can deal with that, I have been living 5 blocks from The Gowanus Canal for over 20 years.
This is the insult.  Phone Books, yes Phone Books.

In February they delivered phone books to the entrance to the Brown Field that was to be the next to the (never gonna be)Whole Foods in Park Slope.  There are still there on April 20th.  Not only did the phone company create these totally unnecessary books, they delivered them to a contaminated vacant lot and they are still there over two months later.  Look below at the photo I took on February 3.  It is a giant pile of phone books that were dumped in my lobby.  They (mostly) sat there for a few weeks till our super put them out with the paper to be recycled.

I guess someone got some commissions for selling ads that were put in books that were delivered to vacant lots or dumped in my lobby.  I guess this is why our country is going down the shit-hole.  People are paid to produce things that are only gonna get thrown away.
