I joined the Coop; Episode 3. My first shift

Last week I miss doing my wife's first shift and 2 days ago I missed my first shift.  It is all my fault.  I got such a light schedule that I forget to actually do something when I have to.  I thought my shifts were 9:30 am on D week Fridays.  In fact I am supposed to work Wednesdays.  So I just showed up on a Friday and did a make up.

I really was not sure what to do.  Like I said, I have not read the 42 page Membership Manual.  But I figure if I walked in and acted like an idiot someone would tell me what to do.  It is not hard to act like an idiot when you are on quadruple alert.

But I did not have to act to stupid.  It seams that everyone misses most of their shifts and most of the work gets done by people doing make up.  So, basically nobody know what is going on because if you ask anyone a question you get one of 2 answers.

  1. I don't know, I am don't really work, here I am doing a make up
  2. I don't know, this is my first day.
But the shift supervisor and squad leaders are ready for that.  The supervise for Receiving hooked me up with a very nice man named Rick.  Rick was told to show me around.  That only took a few minutes.  Then we were told to go help with vitamins.  We had to remove the vitamins from 4 boxed that were delivered from Solgar.  Then make sure the contents matched the packing slip and put price sticker on them.  We did this in a area that was slightly smaller than the area needed to actually do the work.

We made it work.  All vitamins were accounted for and I got to used a price gun.  We were not rushed and we made pleasant conversation while we worked.

It is my initial impressing that everyone who is doing a shift in the Coop goes out of their way to be nice to everyone else.  If you are nice, people are nice back to you and your 2 and a half hours goes fast.  It is not a place to be grumpy.  At Key Food, the owner shits on the managers and the managers shit on their employees. So how do you think the staff is gonna  treat each other, let alone the costumers.

When my 2 and a half hours were up someone came up to me and told me they were supposed to take over for me and put the vitamins on the shelves.  She asked me what to do.  I said, "I don't know this is my first day and it is a make up."
