It is coming back :)

In June of 2001 a  pedestrian walkway opened on the South side of the Manhattan Bridge. I instantly loved it.  The Brooklyn Bridge is a great place to run, but it is often infested with tourists.  Running over the Manhattan Bridge gave me a great view.  I did not run with a camera back then, but I remember there was a view that I wanted to photograph one day.  As one goes up the Bridge from Manhattan you could have looked across the rooftops of Chinatown with its roofs covered in obsolete TV antennas and then see City Hall, the Woolworth Building and then the Twin Towers.

I never got to take that photo.

This morning I ran over the Manhattan Bridge and looked to my right at that same spot.  I lost my breath and came to a dead stop.  Just past City Hall you can see the cranes that are there to rebuild the World Trade Center.

I apologize for the blurry cell phone photo.  But that is how I remember it this morning because my eyes filled with tears.

Perhaps, this September 11th I will have that good cry that I have been holding in for over 9 years.

  1. That must have been a terrible shock to you, suddenly realizing why the view was different, and what caused it to be that way.
