The Park Slope Food Coop Episode 6: I am ACTIVE

Yes, I am alert free. The wife has a non shopper status and I do all her shifts.  I did the make ups and yes I am alert free.

I just gotta say doing "bulk" is so much fun - not.

Yo people, did you see that I am trying to pour a 50 pound bag of free range, whole wheat, organic flower into a little slot. Do I have to wear a blinking light on top of my head.

and just because I can refill the coffee by reading the labels on the sacs does not mean I know which is best in a french press. It was all good.

But I gotta repeat, The Park Slope Food Coop is the most complicated thing in the world. Nobody know how it works.  Everyone knows what they know and how it fits into the bigger picture.  It has grown organically, (never mind the pun) from something small and simple to something extreamly large and complex.  At this point it would be easier to land a man  person on Mars then recreate the PSFC in another place.

I am reminded of the people who do not accept the science of evolution.  They see something as complex as a human being and assume it had to be created by supernatural forces because it is so complicated.  Billions of years is a long time.  A pool of slimy water can become Hank Hanegraaff.  I wonder what the PSFC will be like in 5, 000,000,000 years.

  1. I do wish our Food Coop here in Mass - which I do love - relied in part on member workers and passed the savings on. We lack the housing density needed to sustain and fill the store, so we'll never go member-only.

When I worked at the PSFC, it always reminded me of the Bat Cave, where every complicated gizmo had to be labeled and ready for the next episode. The Bat Coffee Scoop, Bat Scale, Bat Recycling, Bat Mop, Bat Register, Bat Rules.
