The Most Profitable Effing Company in the World

Is Exxon-Mobil. They made over $30,000,000,000.00 last year.  Yes in 2010 they had a fucking profit of $30.5 Billion.  HFS.  Holy Fucking Shit.

Whatever. But they got the fucking nerve to CHARGE A DIME EXTRA  if you want to use you fucking credit card.

I work a little with credit cards.  A giant company like Exxon-Mobil probably pays a 2% fee on credit card transactions.  So on $4, they pay 8 cents to the bank.  So they are making extra money when they charge you 10 cents to use your card.  But it is not just that.  Think of how much extra work Exxon-Mobil has to do when you pay cash.  They have to sort, count, secure and transport money.  That all costs money, when you charge your gas the payment is just transferred from your bank to theirs.  No armored cars.  No bank tellers.

Wait a minute, it costs at least 40 bucks to fill your tank.  (for my puny Civic) and many people need to pay $60 or even $75 to fill up.  Who walks around with that kind of cash   Who wants to take that much money out in the crappy part of the town where the gas station is. So it is often not a matter of convince that one wants to use their credit card, it is a matter of personal safety.

So Fuck You Exxon-Mobil.  Here is a message form the other 99%.  Maybe it would be a better world if you only made half a billion dollars in profit.  $300 billion could be redistributed to 300 million Americans at $1,000 per person.  Yea, Fuck You Exxon-Mobil.  Maybe instead of Occupy Wall St we can just occupy a random neighborhood gas station.

But I use a Speedpass you pay the cash price.. Get some other rebates too.

  1. When you make the point about it costing them money to accept cash, I have to confess that I never thought of it that way, and I see what you're saying.
And now Bank of America is charging $5.00 a month extra for use of Debit cards in shopping transactions. Hopefully they will lose a lot of depositors as a result of this foolish choice.
Morale of the story: Don't buy gas at a Mobil station and don't have a bank account with B of A.

  2. Yea, TeeJay, but all mega businesses just compete with each other to make the most money. A year ago none of the gas stations were charging extra for credit cards in NYC, now they all are.

Soon all the banks will do what BofA is doing.
