What is the deal with this cool map?

It is burred under the somewhat permanant scaffolding that is surrounding 370 Jay St in Downtown Brooklyn.

370 Jay is owned by the MTA.   I know a low person in a high place at the MTA  who says s not abandoned, there is a lot of real communications equipment in it.  The neighbors don't like it.

When I tried to do some surfing and figure out what the map is all about all I found was another blogger asking the same question.

    WWII Memorial
370 Jay Street off Willoughby St. The memorial was built in honor of Transportation men who lost their lives in WWII. The memorial is a wall of granite stones carved with a map of the world and the names of the men. It is composed of 15 stones, each weighing approximately 500 pounds, and measuring 5 feet wide by 3 feet 6 inch high and 2 feet thick.

  2. 370 Jay Street still has some occupants including the NYPD, but is mostly vacant. There is a lot of communications equipment that hasn't been moved yet. The reason for the scaffolding and the netting is that some of the building facade has fallen off in the past.

A few years ago there was a plan to move the map to the NYC Transit Rail Control Center in Manhattan, but I haven't heard if it's still in the works.

This is the inside scoop from a former occupant!
