7th Grade Field Day

I forgot that two years ago I took this photo. when I took the one below

The weather was perfect. The kids were great. But the condition of Fort Greene Park was appalling,

Why was there grass growing out from between the paving stones?

The photo at left does not make it look so bad, but many of the stones were loose.

There was a bathroom in the park, but it had no toilet paper. That wasn't going to work. Fortunatly it was easy to fully stock it with toilet paper by walking across the street to a bodega and buy 2 packages. (I did not have to rent a ZipCar and go to Costco)

I wish there was a better way to more equably distribute the wealth when it came to NYC Parks. Manhattan Park (Central Park) look like they are part of a fancy hotel and well, many parks in the outer boroughs look much worse than Fort Green Park.

Hi! This caught my attention today as my AJ was out on a field day at the local park. I'll have to take them on a field trip to take pics for all the world to see. I love our parks here for the most part, well except for the goose poo at the beach.

I have probabally found a thoundsand dollars worth of metrocards, this list starts July 27, 2008

3-8-18: I must admit that I've been recalcitrant regarding my responsibilities on updating this column. Since last fall I have probably found about $100 worth of MetroCards mostly drop by runners who were ahead of me in large races like the New York City Marathon. In addition to that, last week my daughter was standing right next to me and picked up a card that had $40 on it. We were in a ballroom on the grounds of City College where a high school science and engineering fair was occurring.
9-14-17 Since the spring I have found about $25 worth of cards. One of them had over $13 on it and I found it on the path along the belt Parkway while running a race there. It was a challenge to bend down and pick it up but I knew it would have value because it was so far from the subway
5-21-16 Found the card at the starting line of the Brooklyn Half. It will work till May 31
12-28-15: found the card on the floor in Sears that will work till January 10
Haven't been in the subway since May and I now pay cash to go on espresso ride
4-20-14: $35

4-28-23 i see it's been many years since I actually updated this column. Things have changed through the pandemic. Even before the pandemic they started charging a dollar if you needed a new card. So they were somewhat less card laying around. But since the pandemic when they stop taking cash or combining cards in the boots there's been plenty of cards to pick up.But since the people in the boots come out of the boots I think the stations have actually been cleaner lately.The cards are laying around and until they stop using cards I would remind everyone to pick them up.
